....having another perspective, another set of eyes, can provide tremendous insight, and can often find something that you may have inadvertently looked over.

To a point:

What's the definition of a camel?:D

Camel? What? have you read "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" ? It goes over, in painstaking detail the differences, good and bad, between open and closed source.

A camel is a horse designed by commitee. :D

Aiman,

I agree with most if not all of what you said. I just know from writing embedded drivers and real-time software for thirty years, that no software or OS is immune. And since most of the good hackers haven't focused on Apple/ Linux, they are not being pummeled like Microsnot stuff.

The army can say it has a completely bullet proof car all they want, but until a lot of people start shooting at it, the claim is hard to prove to a certainty.

I guarantee you there are vulerabilities in Apple/Linux, just not enough effort put in to exposing them yet.

My gas can isn't empty yet, is the fire still going?

The United States Government's Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) tracks all security-related vulnerabilities and found that Linux derivatives had nearly 3x as many issues as Windows in their 2005 year-end report.

Vulnerabilities in most of the operating systems and software that most people use are found weekly. Still in denial? Check out the most recent few weeks worth of US-CERT bulletins to see how many times your own favorite software/os/application/tool/vendor has been found to be vulnerable.

(I'm a MCSD.)

Cool, what's your specialty?

I'm a C# guy (but find myself working mostly in VB .Net).

I'm one exam away from a MCDBA.

......now back to the original issue!

I just got done upgrading my firmware on my LinkSys router (WRT300N) and my problem went away!

I have a tough time with the problems that defy logic! :P
