TMann Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 ....having another perspective, another set of eyes, can provide tremendous insight, and can often find something that you may have inadvertently looked over. Aiman Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Lol Jon.. I saw that years ago when it first came out. Hilarious piece of work. Camel? What? have you read "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" ? It goes over, in painstaking detail the differences, good and bad, between open and closed source. Quote

jprock Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Aiman, I agree with most if not all of what you said. I just know from writing embedded drivers and real-time software for thirty years, that no software or OS is immune. And since most of the good hackers haven't focused on Apple/ Linux, they are not being pummeled like Microsnot stuff. The army can say it has a completely bullet proof car all they want, but until a lot of people start shooting at it, the claim is hard to prove to a certainty. I guarantee you there are vulerabilities in Apple/Linux, just not enough effort put in to exposing them yet. Jack Quote

Jon Matcho Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 My gas can isn't empty yet, is the fire still going? The United States Government's Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) tracks all security-related vulnerabilities and found that Linux derivatives had nearly 3x as many issues as Windows in their 2005 year-end report. Vulnerabilities in most of the operating systems and software that most people use are found weekly. Still in denial? Check out the most recent few weeks worth of US-CERT bulletins to see how many times your own favorite software/os/application/tool/vendor has been found to be vulnerable.
