Sun-n=Fun... Where have all the Canards gone

Recommended Posts

Went up to Sun-N-Fun. Very disapointed in the number of Canards represented. 2 Velocities, about 8 Ezs and 2 Cozys on the line plus Nat's Cozy on the Display line.

Leads me to ask how many Cozys are flying or registered to fly.

Row after row of RV 3-8 were there.

Overall count was low. My guess due to marginal weather getting into FL. Maybe it will be better on the weekend. Was very windy as well.

I've been to S&F (by road) every year for 6 years. Each year there have been less canards there than the year before. It's not a matter of how many Cozy's there are, it's a matter of how many still want to pay $5 for a lemonade and listen to screaming warbirds all afternoon while unsupervised little kids jump on their pitot head, and EAA charge them for the priviledge.

My Cozy is flying now, but I doubt it will EVER visit Lakeland which is 45 minutes flight time. Aside from all the above, the place is a bee's nest of different speed traffic with a high potential for accidents.

http://roughriver.org is the place to see canards. More every year. 70+ last year.

Please remember that alot of flyers are late getting to SNF because of weather. You should see more people arriving because this massive front is just now exiting the Atlantic seaboard.

Also, SNF changed its schedule from a Sunday through Sunday show to a Tuesday through Monday show. It used to be that everyone arrived on the Saturday before the Sunday start. Last year was the first year for the schedule switchover. I too was surprised by the small number of early arrivals.

Give it a few days. Try to make to the Rough River fly-in later this Fall. If you want to see canards, that's the place to be.

 I don't get to go to Sun N Fun after all...

But RR sounds like it will have more of what I want to see anyway! Plus, its a shorter, more scenic drive... 70 canards? There were only 10-15 that I saw last year at EAA Oshkosh. Nice. :D

This ain't rocket surgery!

Had lunch today with Marc Zeitlin and Jon Matcho. They flew in from Massachusetts and New Jersey on their way to Sun N Fun. They flew off to visit some builders in South Carolina and should arrive at LAL some time today just before sunset.

N83MZ looked good and was humming! 30-knot tailwinds. They made it from New Jersey to Suffolk, VA in about 1 hour 10 minutes.

This number went up a just a bit as of late yesterday (4/16). I didn't keep an exact count, but I saw Cozy IVs, Cozy IIIs, Velocitys (different models), Longs and a Cosy Classic. For those planes that are here, there is no shortage of great and interesting ideas to use.

Regardless, all other comments seem to be valid... the weather kept us out for a while, the lemonade is expensive, and we were cut off while in the landing pattern.
