Bearair Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Currently a Volvo technician. I start a degree program in IT design February 1st. Between that and plane building I plan to have free time in about 2011. I'm still trying to get the shop done so I can move the project over from the hangar. Quote
Air-Ron Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 By day, I deal poker in a Native owned casino in Tulsa, OK. (I'm looking for a job where I can use my EE degree and break even on the money) By night (in the summer) I teach people how to fly on the trapeze. Hopefully Trapeze University will become profitable enough to pay for my engine when I get there Aaron Morse Quote Aaron Morse Cozy MK-IV Plans #1484 Tulsa, OK www.TrapezeUniversity.com
Aiman Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Sr. Systems Administrator. I work with both Windows (AD, IIS, Exchange, etc) and Linux (Apache, Postfix, MySQL, PHP, etc). I'm also a Virtualization specialist in Xen, and I'm coming up to speed on the intricacies of VMWare Server. Also do a little bit of computer security, but, realistically speaking, what Admin doesn't. I work typically in large datacenter or enterprise environments (100+ users). I'm actually looking for a job right now, so, if anyone has any leads.. please throw me a bone. Quote
gontek Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I am a Scientist, Civil Engineer, and GIS Specialist by day. I probably won't start building until after I get my PE, which I take soon. Mostly I determine floodplain boundaries and do engineering for FEMA in the biggest design firm I know of. In short, FEMA needs something, I do it, and my company makes money. By night (and education) I'm a Physicist and Aerospace Engineer. I have megalomaniacal delusions that I can design and build an airplane, since I designed a couple in college. Since my wife says I can't build yet so I go through the motions of designing aircraft in my basement. I also am a pilot and fly a 172 in the local flying club, so I am living the dream, it's just a long, loud dream that doesn't go very far or fast without a good tailwind. My dream job would involve being Jimmy Buffet I think. Quote
John D. Wages Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 My dream job would involve being Jimmy Buffet I think.I used to be Jimmy Buffet! OK...maybe in my own mind, but those were "The Good Ol' Days". I now am project manager for an electrical contracting company in Memphis. Been there for 18 years. I have redirected my music ambitions from a focus on myself to a focus on Christ. I write and play Christian songs for our childrens worship every second Sunday at our church. The only regret I have is that I didn't start sooner. Hey, isn't that the same regret we have about building our planes? Quote Best Regards, John D. DiscoveryIsland Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 But yet another example of the diversity and uniqueness of us all. How such a vision of lofty bliss would bring together people from all walks of life. I started out Commercial Fishing in Alaska for 22 years with off-season hobbies such as carpentry. Imagine crawling into a tin can with diesel fuel and then having it shaken-for days. Needless to say, I came to the conclusion that fishing for a living was a young man's sport and I needed to move on, or in my case-get out of the boat and kiss the ground. As a Project Engineer in recent years, my family and I make our home in Southern California. The hours are long, but I try to practice the advise of many of you and that is to do a little on my cozy project every day-even if it is only 15 minutes. Then, when I have a Saturday or a long evening all to myself, I cannot wait to get at it! Yahoo! Quote
Neverquit Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I'm amazed as well. The life changing contrasts is what gets to me. How does one become a project engineer from being a fisherman for 22 years? I California, most expensive State to live! I live in a rust belt area of the U.S. Most of us go through life living breathing, eating, sleeping automotive. There is no living here without it. Regardless of your career here, you are affected by it. I do it, my father, grandfathers, friends, relatives, doctors, lawyers, all related. You can be a plumber here but you'll remortgage your home if the auto industry takes a dive. I'm an engineer. Never drew a single car except when I was a kid. I was in Quality, a programmer when there was only such things as DOS and no icons, tier 1 supplier development, purchasing, now a different type of engineer. The titles/jobs were/are indirectly related to the actual work. Most recent career is squeezing $$ out of my suppliers for a fair price. Funny how a few cents can become millions. Not living the dream yet myself but paying the bills and I thank God for that. Far too gray here too long. I'm ready to pound nails, plant trees, or open a DQ on the coast somewhere else any time now. Quote
Essais08 Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Mike...somebody take the mike.... Too late to help you there! Chrissi is a charmer, though, isn't she? Probably Randi, too (It's all in the 'i', I suppose). My work -- field service engineer. Control systems, process systems, training. On the road about 60%, so I'm expecting a really long build time. Hope I can keep up with the rest of you... Quote
ksmith Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Electronics Engineer for the FAA.....right now on 100% travel doing electronics/fiber optics installs in the southeast. As soon as the traveling settles down I plan on starting (and finishing) a build. Quote
