nothing fancing, just plane day

Recommended Posts

We are at the point where we are building the last strake on plane #2, my assigned plane now. There was no way to move the planes around in the garage anymore, so with temps in the balmy 50's here, we opened up the garage doors and everything came out. The floor got cleaned and swept. Working around the metal support posts is a real headach! After a lot of verbal colaberation, lots of muscle, trial and error placements, one smashed big toe, mine:scared: , we managed to get everthing back in to fit with plenty room to build that last strake! In fact, there is more room now to manuver around the planes than before:cool: !! Heres a pic of pre-shuffle.

Tom friend

Mike MASTER BUILDER, forum

We are now excellant strake builders, we have it like a science, don't even need to look at the plans, it is simple, this is the fourth one.

Well, i read the plans yesterday and discoverred we had overlooked one minor joint taping. Life is good, we went back and taped the joint on the three previous tanks with material that was left over from taping the current tank together, he he he

lesson for the day, hey stupid, read the plans EVERY time. Oh next plane day will be without me, this saturday, great day for new slaves to get trained and you won't have to put up with me!

on the agenda

rough form top skin and glass it

install flanges on top of tank parts

install hard points for fuel sender and fuel return line

maybe glass a tank top

enjoy the build

dust

maker wood dust and shavings - foam and fiberglass dust and one day a cozy will pop out, enjoying the build

This weeks plane day was very really fun. I started out by taking 2 of my nephews to the woods to learn how to shoot a 22, OH wait, you guys don't want to hear about what I did on plane day, you are interested in what happened in the plane factory on plane day. I can only say second hand, as i wasn't there.

I wasn't there to install flanges on the top of tank 4

lay up top inside skin of tank 4

cut out inside lip and dremel turtledeck for window installation

At attendence were

Mike forum and master builder

His son Soon to be Master builder helper

Tom friend and unbelievable straight line cutter

Eric forum and master builder

greg his brother and soon to be partner or at least helper

thane partner

dave partner

So many people showed up and I, the master manager, wasn't there and sooooooooooooooo much was accomplished that thane worked hard keeping everyone busy, aint life tuff

enjoy the build, plane day is saturday

dust
