Attaching wing bolts

dust

Recommended Posts

Can you say wobble extension. we had a choice, make the holes bigger or go to my truck and get a wobble extension and , for the top bolt, a small piece of tape.

The wobble extension started the bolt with no problems

Just in case this helps someone....

Heres a good trick for getting the nuts started on the wing bolts:

Use a hacksaw blade. Bend an inch of the end at about 30 degrees and wrap duct tape around the end backwards - sticky side out. Stick the nut to the duct tape then reach in the hole with the blade and position the nut on the end of the bolt. Turn the bolt (can even be done alone) and, if you have the nut aligned correctly, you'll catch the threads every time.

By the way, don't use the plane wing bolts until final assembly. Use hardware store bolts which are easily tightened and undone. You'll probably be take them off and putting them on a few times. Apart from being easier, this saves the proper bolts from multiple use and abuse. Of course - don't forget to swap the bolts on final assembly.
