Resin and Glass

There is an Aircraft Spruce dealer in Europe    https://www.aircraftspruce.eu    and a fair number of French canard builders.  (I just saw a nice Cozy located at Vannes in the NW).   You might join the "Canard Aviator's" yahoo group and the "Cozybuilders" google group. There are European builders on those lists that might be able to advise you.

Consider this:  It's going to cost you $30-35,000 to build a Long-ez and buying materials a little at a time will just kill you with delays, shipping costs and VAT.  You can buy a flying Long-ez in the U.S. for that amount or less.  Buy an older Long-ez in the U.S., put it in a shipping container and ship it to Europe.   I imagine your cost will turn out to be about the same as building from scratch and you can have a lot of fun updating it: re-engine, re-wire, repaint, and make the changes you'd like to make.  I have a friend in Vannes doing that now to a French Cozy that needed a lot of work. There are lots of EZs coming up for sale as the late builders from the late '70s and '80s get out of flying.  They are still good airplanes but with small engines and 70's avionics.

Hi Kevin,

The following thread may be of interest to you, regarding glass: http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/17837-rutan-fiberglass-specs/

There are resin options in Europe  - I believe MGS is available there? You might even find a 'local' vendor.

Kent this is for the renovation of my 6th hand 1986 Longeze. In particular for the torsion wraps on a new nose gear strut.

I expect that any BID weave of a similar weight as the Rutan weave would do (8.8 oz).    If you only need few yards, I would get from the European Aircraft Spruce dealer.

  • 3 weeks later...

The epoxy Resin L385 is the closest to MGS. In fact is even a litlebit better.

Hardener 386 is the 120 min. And hardener 385 is the 20 min.

Up to now they always deliver my orders.

If they do not deliver to you. Contact me in private and we find a way out.
