LEZ1675 Posted January 23, 2010 Share Posted January 23, 2010 Hi all, I just joined the forum. I bought partially built LongEZ 1675 from a lady in South Carolina, so I'm just starting. What is the distance from the belly of the plane to the ground right under the landing gear? I'm planning to use a L320 engine. If I use a 2-blade prop, does the LG need to be a bit longer, or should I go normal height and use a 3-blade prop? Also, what size tires does everyone use on the main LG? Waiter Posted January 23, 2010 Share Posted January 23, 2010 Welcome to the forum, and congrads on your new EZ. Follow the plans. (You Do have the plans, don't you?) There are many EZ's out there with the O-320, and several prop makers who can supply a two bladed for the EZ. The original plans call for 5x5. However many builders are putting a smaller tire on the mains. This makes for smaller wheel pants and a small reduction in drag. TMann Posted January 24, 2010 Share Posted January 24, 2010 The ground is located at WL -26.0 The bottom of the fuselage is WL 0.9 (i.e.26.9 inches off the ground. When you start talking about clearance, are you going with the standard P-51 scoop or are you using a NACA scoop? Thanks. - Bill the long ez main gear axle is at WL -22" the bottom is at WL +.9 so about 23 ". depending on the size tires used, the plans size tires are about 11.5" in diameter. so 23" + 5.75 for half the tire = 28.75" Quote Evolultion Eze RG -a two place side by side-200 Knots on 200 HP. I'm designing retract landing gear and am figuring the length of the gear and whether I can fold them up into the strakes in a reasonable manner. I'm an engineer by trade, and sometimes spend way too much time and effort designing things and I'll always say "Why won't that work?". Most of the time I find out why! I'm sure someone has the URLs. Yeah, they look cool. For me, not worth the extra work and expense unless you're expecting to cruise in the 250 kt range or better.
