Avgas stains on paint

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Due to a fuel breather tube overflow I now have lovely Avgas stains down the wing of my Long Eze. I have tried removing it with Avgas with no success. Does anybody know an easy and quick way to clean this off?

Thanks in advance.

I always put a clear coat on my paint and stains come off with a little rubbing compound. What kind of paint do you have?

My initial thoughts are, Why do you have fuel coming out the vents?

I can't remember where the plans built vent terminates inside the strake, I want to say; "Toward the back, right above the sump".

Anyway, Try a little acetone first. That may get most of it if it hasn't blead into the paint, Otherwise, try some polishing compound, This is a very fine abbrasive, so be carefull.

Hi Waiter,

Whenever I park up with more that half tanks, and I don't release the fuel caps, fuel will pour out of the vent. I am thinking of making up some ground only fuel caps with snorkel style vents tubes. This way if it rains I wont get water entering the fuel tanks.

Thanks for the advice - I'll try Acetone.

Regards.

Inside the strake, It sounds like the vent tube is in the middle and is below the fuel level when you park nose down.

You might get an inspection mirror and see if you can see the end through the fuel cap. You might luck out and be able to cut/bend the tube so its toward the back of the strake and above the fuel level when you park nose down.

I have two vents in eact tank, one toward the front and one in the back. This is also a safety feature in case one of the vents becomes plugged.
