Dragonfly Down in NE Sandhills

There was a dragonfly that went down last Thursday in the sandhills in western Nebraska. It ended up in this guys front yard (but a front yard in that area could be 60 acres.)

It was fatal. It seems it would be pretty tough to do an off field landing in that rig.

I waiting to hear exactly where the crash site was. He was flying from Minneapolis with a fuel stop at Valentine, NE. I'm thinking he had an emergency and was trying to make the grass strip at Arthur. It's rough land out there and a 30 ft difference in altitude would make it or break it.

He was a Highway Patrolman in AZ and had a strong reputation in the EAA chapter down there as well as with a local Dragonfly club.

Got a little more info on this one from a review of the crash site. He made the fuel stop at Valentine, NE then started his next leg. About 30 min. into it he went down. It sounds like he lost his canopy:

All major airframe components were accounted for except for the canopy and frame. An extensive search of the area did not reveal any evidence of the canopy or frame whatsoever.

Should the Dragonfly by un-flyable with the canopy gone?

What about the Q2 or Q200?

Thank you,

If it was this accident, there is no mention of a lost canopy and it appears the non-instrument rated pilot flew into IMC   https://planecrashmap.com/plane/ne/N360KK/
