I was contacted by someone who sent payment (not a member), has not received the product, and what were once open email communications have now ceased. Posing as a prospective buyer, I wrote the seller an email and received a reply within a few hours that the item was still available. I have banned the user and deactivated their account from receiving emails. I hope our community can help out here, and this is what I have in mind. Considering the seller's address is in Australia, can one of our Aussie members write to the seller expressing interest? Maybe he's local to you and you may be able grab a license plate, address, or some other information that would help either recover the money or punish this character. I am not worried about whether the scammer has been alerted by this post as I doubt he's proactively checking here. Still, we should act fast if there's anything anyone is willing to help serve some justice. Write to me and I will pass along the "seller's" email address. Please be careful everyone. I got ripped off by PayPal a year ago. I was told to send the item back to Australia of all places. Then PayPal didn't refund the money. I paid shipping both ways and didn't get the item or the money. Don't use PayPal for international purchases! Use Visa or MC Just my $365.12 worth.... Some merchants don't want to deal with Amex, Visa and MasterCard ....... but for many others it comes down to they can't qualify. I find the credit cards only care about keeping the % cut for brokering the deal and the % trimmed on the exchange markets. Many mercants don't like AMX because they take the % and don't pay until after the customer pays AMX. That often can be a 30 - 60 day delay on payment... MC & Visa pay before collections. That is why AMX is not accepted in places that take MC & Visa. I am not sure it is wise to deal with an international funds exchange with a business that can not qualify. Failure to qualify should speak volumes to the customer sending money directly overseas. The problem is a legal issue also, nobody wants to be liable (like PayPal in my case). My seller sent me damaged goods that were misrepresented. PayPal told me to return the product and pay for the shipping. I got to pay international shipping twice and the product once and got none of my money back from PayPal. I again warn people DO NOT use PayPal for international purchases. PayPal is an American Company owned by EBay. Unless you wish to file a claim in California for the loss your money is gone if the seller defaults on the deal (also known as fraud). The reason they don't like Amex is due to the discount rate (i.e. Amex takes a bigger piece of the pie than MC & Visa.) I use all three for my side business. MC & Visa are in my account 48 hours after the transaction. Amex is another 48 after that. The one that cost me (as the merchant) the most was Discover and that was due to the poor fraud protection they have (or had) in place to protect me as a merchant. kevkevkel Posted August 18, 2009 Share Posted August 18, 2009 I too have had bad experience with Paypal. I had an eBay account and a Paypal account and bought a couple of items. Then one day a couple of years back I was checking my credit card records and discovered that someone in Korea had bought things on eBay and Paypal had sanctioned the payment. I contacted my bank and Paypal. My bank got involved and refunded my money, cancelled my credit card and issued a replacement. I wrote several times to Paypal but never got any response from them. I PAID WITH PAYPAL. If you do not have your funding source backed by a credit card when making NON EBAY purchases, e.g., PayPal directly withdrawals from your checking account, as was the case for me, your money will be lost forever. Back your PayPal funding source with a credit card for non-ebay purchases. Expensive lesson for me. Steve Innova Posted May 8, 2017 Share Posted May 8, 2017 As a seller, I'm very much not a fan of Paypal, because there's no way to protect yourself from dishonest buyers. Lots of scams out there, but a popular one is where the buyer "returns" the item -- sending an empty box through UPS or FedEx -- and then claims a refund through paypal. (They do this even if you've explicitly stated no-returns). Paypal is good for a small deposit, b/c it's immediate and provides the buyer protection too. Those, of course, are not scams. I have bought several things on ebay and have not been stung, yet. But I believe that I will stop using PayPal completely. I have 2 cards.
