Fein Accessories

I have a Fein and have been extremely satisfied. The HSS blade does cut glass very well.

I recently started using the sanding triangle to get into some tighter area for sanding. For larger flat area I've been using a porter cable speed-bloc finish sander.

The problem with the sanderpaper that comes with the tool is it doesn't seem to last very long. What I'd love to have is perma-grit sanding attachment. I've spotted this Rasp attachment that Fein makes. Has anyone every seen one of these? It looks like it may be about the right grit for sanding cured glass and hopefully last longer.

Any suggestions before I drop $100 or the two pieces?

ok. I'm really just looking for an excuse to buy a new tool! :)

Drew, I have both of those and use them alot to get into tight spaces but only when I'm about to add more glass to the area or certain other things, I wouldn't call what those things do sanding, more like chewing, they'll eat up your work quick if you let them. They are a great addition to the Fein and I wouldn't give mine away, but there not going to do what I think you think there going to do, I think!

So your looking for a story to tell your wife in other words:)

Which version fo the Fein do most builders buy? I'm about to order one but dont want to spend the extra money for the macked out kit if I dont need it...

My suggestion is to by the basic chorded multimaster--- no speed control.

You'll love the tool.

You want to find the best deal you can find. I have an old single speed unit, from ebay, and see no need for any other speeds.

Don't forget, the blades which we use for composite work doesn't come with most of the Fein kits. We use the HSS (high speed steel) circular cutting blades. My blades came from Harbor Freight, $9.99 for three, part no. 42805. I don't have the Fein HSS flush cut blade (around $80 for one), but wish I did. It would be VERY helpful.

I also occasionally use the sticky triangular sanding pads.

Although I have the varible speed version, I vote for the single speed. The only time it changes from off high speed is to ensure it's still at that setting.

You say it chews into glass. So say a person has some nasty airbubbles around the longerson where the normal triangle fien blade can't reach. It sounds like the fien rasp finger tool would be a good choice to sand away the offending glass before doing a structure repair. Not that I'm talking for myself.

Drew,

Fein has some really good contour sanding accessories that will get in to those areas very well. "Not that I'm talking for myself" ;)
