Removing the jig box

I had read that it was difficult to remove the jig box from the tabs, and I was not looking forward to the task. But my son suggested that we take our circular saw and make two cuts, lengthwise, about 1 inch apart on the jig bottom. This allowed us to remove 2 1-inch strips of wood - one from each 4 1/2" x 30" board.

With the gap between the fore and aft portions of the jig box, it was easy to remove the rest of the box from the gear bow and spar. They came off easily as two big pieces.

Just thought I'd throw this out there - it made the removal of the box pretty easy, I thought, rather than hacking away at it with chisels and hack-saw blades etc. as called out in the plans.

That is a good idea unfortunately to late for me I had to hack and hack and cuss and hack some more to get that thing apart then had to get out the dremmel and dig all the bondo out so I could finish the glass work. :irked: I am glad that is over. STeve
