A TORROIDS Affair.....

Recommended Posts

My Long-eze plans don't seem to spec out the in-skin antennas.

What is the spec for the length of copper foil I should be using?

Is there a difference in foil length between the com & nav?

Then there's that whole 'TORROIDS' affair.

Are they needed?

How many?

Spacing etc.

I'm real close to cutting foam on my project and will start with the winglets.

I finished building my assembly table this weekend, complete with formica top so I get a good seal on my vacuum bag.

Hmmmm........the only problem is I bought the foil and coax already (before I could locate the rst kit.)

I knew I had seen this kit on one of the canard pages ........ just could not remember where.

I also looked at the Advanced Aircraft products which eliminates all the guesswork (at a price) but in reviewing the posts, it seems most everyone thinks the copper foil arrangement performs at the same level.

Actually, I'm going to have the same question... just because I want to use the coax and torroids I already have. A trip to the copper tape store and all I need are directions for how to install...

Also, this question comes up in Chapter 7, where you install the copper antenna to the bottom of the fuselage.

Here is some information I received as to determining the length of the antenna foil given a frequency of 121.5 :

The common formula used to determine the length of a dipole antenna in free space is:

432/frequency (in Mhz)

So 432/121.5 = 3.55555 feet = 42.666666 inches.

That's 21.3333 inches per side.

Ahhhhh.......More information:

I received this this morning. It's a link to a PDF reprint which gives all the sorted details.

http://www.cozybuilders.org/ref_info/RST_82704.pdf

This represents a complete description of lengths, alignments, torroids, location etc. A very complete description.

Thanks Marc for warehousing this.
