Karlo
I´m searching for informations about VariEze with Rotax 912S (100 hp). Has anyone experience with this powerplant? How to install and drawings for the engine mount? I live in Germany and a Rotax 912 is a very usual engine for light aircraft. Please help. SpaceShipOne
Hi, I drop here a quick question for you... Are used-Rotax 912 quite easy to find on the german market? Excellent idea anyway
Karlo
No, it´s very difficult to find used Rotax 912. Many people are searching, but the market is empty. Buy a new one .. more safety! A used Rorax may be fine in a slow ultralight, microlight or PA-18.
Nathan Gifford
There have been posts about installing Rotax engines. I know there are some issues, but I think you can find EZs flying with 912s. You might try contacting Central States Assoc. They may have more info in back issues. Jon Matcho
You might try contacting Central States Assoc. They may have more info in back issues.Nathan, good reference, but you may want to subscribe yourself, because then you would know that: The CSA home page, as printed on every issue, is www.canardzone.com/csa, and A member roster is published every year, showing name, location, plane type, engine, and contact information for each member So Karlo, do what Nathan suggested and join the CSA. I'll take a peek tonight and see how many VariEze/912s are flying (or at least listed). Jon Matcho
The CSA Membership Roster dated January 2006 shows 2 members that appear to be planning to install Rotax engines. One is putting a 912 in a VariEze, and one is putting a 914 in a Long-EZ (I'm assuming those are correct model numbers). Nathan Gifford
...Nathan, good reference, but you may want to subscribe yourself,...Check the roster in Louisiana under 'G' and see whose name is there. I won't use a smiley, but that's the way I mean it!!! Good idea about checking the roster for a 912. karoliina
Didn't Dan Patch have Rotax 914 in his Vari-Eze? I have Rotax 912UL in my TL-96 Star. Rotax 912ULS (100 hp) would be fine for Vari-Eze I think. For bigger planes like Cozy it would be underpowered. Used Rotax engines are hard to find and usually people just buy new ones. The 912 can not be rebuilt, it has 1500 hours of lifetime and at that point it is returned to Bombardier-Rotax as an exchange for a new engine. rthresh
Have You looked at the Takeoff Boxer? BMW r1200 oil/Air cooled, and 125 hp used on Cherry, I'm designing a light version of the Velocity twin, with these engines. 2 seater side by side.See attached pdf. I really like the boxer, I have 72000 miles on my cycle with a variant of this engine. No problems ever, and I run it hard. By the way, less than half the cost of a Rotax 912 info_motor_eng.pdf Edited December 2, 2020 by rthresh updated info
